You can either decide of removing the transmission or the engine to do the timing chain. It's about the same amount of work.
So if you want to inspect the bearings you should go with the engine removal.

How can I inspect them? If I must demontage it, then is better to change them.

Mahle Motorsport would be the best. But otherwise Glyco oder Kolbenschmidt are fine.

Maybe someone has an answer for me. When changing conrod bearings for my 550d found out that Kolbenschmidt set for N57D30C fits all diesel engines for F series. However, the OEM part catalog says conrod bearings are interchangeable only between 1.6-2.5 diesels in F series and m50d. OEM was Schmiedmann if I'm correct. So got a bit confused why 3.0 and 3.5 diesels are not listed there.
Has someone used Kolbenschmidt set on 550d without any issues?
