Chassis Fehler?

  • Hi, please excuse that I'm writing in English!

I have a 535i xDrive from 2013. Recently it started showing a chassis error on the display:

I noticed that this error is usually only shown when I'm driving the car for the first time each day. If I drive somewhere, and leave my car parked for a short time, and then drive back home, this error is not shown for the second journey. I suspect this means that the cause of the error, could be related to the engine temperature?

In any case, I used the BimmerLink app to connect to the on-board computer and search for errors.

I found only one error that is related to the chassis - the second one in this list:

And when I open this, error, it says "ARS service qualifier functional error or defective":

ARS refers to "Active Roll Stabilization" - I think it's also called Dynamic Drive?

I also took my car to my local mechanic, but he said he can't help with this kind of error and I should take it to my local BMW dealer. However, I would prefer to find the cause of this myself, in case it's something I might be able to fix myself. The BMW dealer is very expensive, of course.

Does anyone know what is causing this error? Could it be some kind of engine fluid? Maybe something I can easily check and replace myself?

    Thanks!

  • if Comfort Access installed check Fuse #2, 5 Amp in Glovebox. DSC and CA are on same Fuse. Door Handle may be shorting to ground and draining the Battery but does not always blow the Fuse.

In any case charge the Battery using an AGM charger at the under hood charging points.

Car Access details ? If it shows a particular Handle disconnect and monitor.

  • Hi, thanks for your answer!

You mentioned DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) - but I thought ARS and DSC are separate and unrelated features? The error refers only to ARS, not to DSC.

Nevertheless I'll check to see what the Comfort Access error is saying, and I can also check the fuse you mentioned.

My battery is only one year old, and it's at 70% currently, so it doesn't seem to be draining.

I read somewhere else that ARS errors can be caused by low power steering fluid (CHF 11S fluid) and I should apparently check this on my car.

  • Post all of the other error codes.

In modern cars there is no such thing as unrelated.

  • Horsty is Right, need more data…

Power Steering Fluid is easy to check, look for any foaming, low level, leakage, etc…

And… normal Battery level is more like 80%… keep that under consideration.

I checked the power steering fluid this afternoon, and indeed it is very low. It doesn't even touch the bottom of the dip-stick that is attached to the cap. So I hope that is the cause of the error, because that should be fairly easy to fix.

I'm not sure how important it is to flush out all of the old fluid (which would require a visit to the mechanic), or is it okay to just buy some Fuchs CHF 11S fluid from Amazon and top it up directly myself?

Thanks for the tip about the battery. Probably it's lower than 80% because it's winter and I don't drive it every day, but I'll keep an eye on this too.
